The recurring theme is old businesses, and that has evolved into the topic for The Sentinel’s next hardback book — “A Look Back: Business in the Juniata Valley.” I love this topic because my earliest memories of downtown Lewistown, when my family moved here in the spring of , revolve around the local businesses that were just down. Since first published by Henry W. Shoemaker in his book Juniata Memories in , the legend of Princess Nittany has been retold in two additional versions. The first version below is Shoemaker’s original recounting of the legend, as he claims to have heard it from an aged Indian named Jake Faddy.
